Rigathi Gachagua’s latest humiliation is complete.
The impeached former Deputy President has abruptly cut short his UK tour — from a planned one-month fundraising expedition to a mere five or six days — claiming “Kenyans have asked me to come back and fight for them.”
Which Kenyans?
The same UK-based Kenyans who, according to insiders and multiple reports, largely refused to open their wallets. Gachagua flew to London primarily to raise funds for his struggling DCP party and the 2027 presidential bid. He even begged the diaspora to finance his candidate in the small Ol Kalou by-election. The response was embarrassingly lukewarm. He reportedly raised a paltry KSh2 million — barely enough to cover his accommodation and transport costs.
This is the man who wants to be President of Kenya.
If Rigathi Gachagua cannot mobilise serious resources even for a single parliamentary by-election, how does he expect to fund a credible national presidential campaign? The answer is obvious: he cannot. His entire political project is built on hot air, ethnic mobilisation, and desperate begging.
While in the UK, he tried to project strength, launching a DCP diaspora chapter and issuing fresh attacks on President Ruto. Back home, the reality is different. Kenyans are focused on hustling amid tough economic times. They are not begging him to return as their saviour. The only people “calling him back” appear to be his close allies and immediate family.
Kenyans are not stupid. We cannot remove Ruto only to install a man who jets off to beg for campaign money, fails miserably, then fabricates stories of popular demand to mask his rejection.
Heri hiyo election ikae. Kenyans would rather wait for genuine leadership than settle for this level of conmanship.
The mask has slipped completely. Rigathi Gachagua is not a national leader — he is a bitter political beggar whose ambitions far exceed his capacity and credibility.
