Narok town residents were left terrified on Monday as DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua reportedly brought his own goons to stage a campaign-day drama. What was meant to be a routine rally turned into scenes of panic and confusion as locals fled their homes and shops.
Eyewitnesses say Gachagua’s convoy entered town with men acting aggressively toward residents, forcing police to fire teargas to restore order. Many are now questioning whether the chaos was deliberate, designed to make Gachagua look like a victim of government harassment.
Gachagua, donning a black helmet and seemingly ready for conflict, addressed the crowd for barely five minutes before pandemonium broke out. Police quickly intervened, dispersing both his supporters and the so-called “goons” who had terrorized the town.
Residents described the scene as “shocking” and “deliberately provocative.” One shopkeeper said, “They came like they wanted a fight, then acted like they were under attack. It was scary.”
The former Deputy President was in Narok to support MCA aspirant Douglas Masikonde ahead of the November 27 by-elections. But instead of a rally, Narok got a spectacle of staged attacks, teargas, and fleeing citizens.
Critics say Gachagua’s theatrics put ordinary people at risk just to score political points. Social media in Narok has since erupted, with many accusing him of turning the town into a political playground for sympathy politics.
As the by-elections approach, one thing is clear: Narok residents are not forgetting Monday’s chaos anytime soon.
