The events in Nyeri Town today are a clear sign that the people of Mt. Kenya have had enough of DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua’s divisive politics and disrespectful behavior.
While attempting to address residents, Gachagua resorted to his usual habit of insulting and belittling elected leaders. But this time, the people stood their ground. An irate crowd rose against him, demanding that he respect the very leaders he once urged them to elect. Unable to withstand the backlash, Gachagua was forced to flee in humiliation.
This came shortly after Gachagua used abusive language against Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi in Karatina Town — remarks that angered the majority of residents and further exposed his arrogance and disregard for fellow leaders.
This incident is yet another reminder that intimidation, insults, and reckless outbursts are not leadership. Nyeri residents have spoken loudly and clearly: they want unity, respect, and development — not divisive rhetoric and constant fights.
Gachagua’s behavior exposes a man in panic, lashing out at those he fears will outshine him. But Mt. Kenya is moving forward, and the people are rejecting the politics of fear and abuse.
Respect is earned, not demanded. The people of Nyeri have shown that they will not tolerate leaders who insult others for personal survival.
