Now that Rigathi Gachagua is out of government, he wants us to see him as a hero for the people. He is speaking loudly about Gen Z, freedom, and government mistakes. But we must not forget what kind of leader he was when he had power.
During the 2023 Azimio protests about the high cost of living, Gachagua was the Deputy President. Every morning, he would be in his office by 5:00 a.m., not to listen to the cries of Kenyans, but to plan how to stop the demonstrations. People were beaten, tear-gassed, and even killed. And Gachagua was at the center of it all. He also stood by quietly when goons attacked Mama Ngina Kenyatta’s farm, stealing goats and causing destruction — an attack many believe he helped plan.
But this behavior didn’t start in 2023. Gachagua has a long history of using fear to control people. In the 1990s, during President Moi’s time, he worked as a District Officer and was known for harassing those who spoke against the government. He has always used power to silence others.
Now that he has been impeached and kicked out of the system, he is pretending to care. But let’s be honest — if he was still in government, he would likely be using the police to beat and arrest Gen Z protesters today.
Kenyans must be careful. Do not be fooled by his new tone. Gachagua’s record speaks for itself. We cannot allow him to pretend to be a saint just because he is no longer in office. We must remember the truth and stay alert. When some people lose power, they suddenly discover their “morals” — but only to serve their next plan.
