Rigathi Gachagua’s plan for the 2027 elections is simple yet dangerously clever. It is one of the most fascinating political chess moves in recent memory — a plan to control power without ever needing to be President. While Kalonzo Musyoka prepares his final run for the top seat, Gachagua is quietly weaving a web beneath the surface — one designed to make him indispensable in any government that emerges.
Here’s how it works. Gachagua’s first card is emotion. He knows Mt. Kenya voters are deeply sentimental during elections. So he’s cleverly repackaging his Wantam gospel — “we supported Ruto who betrayed us,” — into a regional cry for justice. But behind the slogan lies a business model: politics of shares. He wants Mt. Kenya to believe they are investing in their “own son,” while in reality, they are investing in Gachagua Inc.
Through his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), Gachagua is rallying the mountain to produce a full house of loyal foot soldiers — governors, senators, MPs, and MCAs who owe their seats to him. Once elected, these leaders won’t serve the people; they’ll serve the man who sponsored their rise. His goal? Use them to bargain for 50% of government tenders, CDF projects, and appointments — both at the county and national level.
That same 50% formula is what he’s pitching to Kalonzo Musyoka in the United Opposition — a deal to “share” government in advance, should Kalonzo win. Imagine that — a man with no national mandate demanding half the government.
But here’s the catch: Gachagua doesn’t even care if Kalonzo wins. His real plan is to walk into 2027 with 416 MCAs, 140 MPs, 20 senators, and 10 governors behind him — enough political muscle to force yet another handshake, this time with President Ruto.
Mt. Kenya must wake up. The 2027 election shouldn’t be about helping Gachagua secure tenders and control. It should be about electing leaders who serve the people, not those auditioning to serve one man.
