Let it be known! Neither Fred Matiang’i nor Kalonzo Musyoka truly believes they could govern effectively with Rigathi Gachagua as deputy president — or worse, constantly breathing down their necks.
The reason is simple. Both men understand that any administration with Rigathi in it would grind to a halt under the weight of his constant demands for his “share” of power and patronage. His politics is transactional to the core. Every handshake, every alliance, every deal comes with a non-negotiable price tag — not for service to Kenyans, but for carving out turf for himself and his loyalists.
This is the very opposite of leadership. National service requires compromise, sacrifice, and a willingness to put country above self. Rigathi’s track record shows the reverse: a man who thrives on division, thrives on reminding everyone of what he is “owed,” and thrives on holding partners hostage until his personal demands are met.
Kenyans have lived through this script before. Power-sharing arrangements crippled the Kibaki administration during the nusu mkate government, where energy that should have gone to economic recovery was wasted in endless wrangles. Do we really want to repeat that nightmare under Rigathi’s watch?
For Matiang’i and Kalonzo, both seasoned in the politics of coalition-building, the risk is too obvious. Rigathi may deliver noise, threats, and tribal posturing, but he cannot deliver stability in government. That is why the thought of sitting with him as deputy is a non-starter.
The truth may sting, but it must be said: Rigathi Gachagua is politically incompatible with effective governance. Feel free to throw tantrums because you hate the truth.
