Aspirants of the Democracy for Citizens Party, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, are up in arms after the party’s much-anticipated launch on 7th July 2025 failed to happen. Many had already begun early campaigns under the party banner, believing it to be Gachagua’s political comeback. Now, they are frustrated by total silence and poor communication from the party leadership.
According to insiders, over Ksh 250 million was raised by hopeful aspirants and supporters to fund the launch. But weeks later, there has been no explanation, no new date, and no venue shared. The launch was quietly shelved without a word from party headquarters, and aspirants feel abandoned.
What has made matters worse is Gachagua’s sudden departure to the United States, where he is expected to stay for two months. With the party leader out of the country, officials say the launch cannot proceed in his absence. This has fueled suspicion among members that the 7th July date was never serious, but a ploy to raise money while hiding behind the excuse of Gen Z-led protests expected that week.
Some aspirants and officials, speaking anonymously for fear of victimization, accused Gachagua of treating the party like a personal briefcase. They say he alone handles all financial contributions and decision-making, leaving the rest of the team in the dark. “We have given our money in good faith. Now there’s no communication, and the boss is abroad. We’re being played,” lamented one aspirant.
Others fear that once Gachagua returns, he may demand even more money for the delayed launch, despite already collecting millions.
What was supposed to be a new beginning for Gachagua’s political journey is now being questioned as a possible scam by those who believed in it.
