As the Ol Kalou by-election gathers momentum, one question is refusing to go away. Who will really run the constituency if DCP’s Sammy Ngotho wins?
According to DCP insiders, Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia is positioning herself to wield massive influence over Ol Kalou’s affairs through Ngotho. This follows Ngotho’s recent public interview, where he was incoherent and openly struggled to articulate a clear development agenda for the constituency.
His performance has fueled arguments that he lacks the political independence needed to lead Ol Kalou and will become a proxy for outside interests. Such an arrangement would allow external political players to influence bursary allocations, development priorities and the management of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects at the expense of Ol Kalou locals.
At the centre of the debate are allegations that Muhia could effectively control up to 35 per cent of the constituency’s development resources if Ngotho secures victory, a claim that has become a major talking point in the heated campaign.
With the July 16 by-election fast approaching, Ol Kalou voters face a defining question. Are they electing an independent MP, or opening the door to leadership directed from outside the constituency?
