If reports from Ol Kalou are accurate, the leadership of Jubilee Party deserves immediate disbandment.
A party that once ruled Kenya for over a decade, with structures, history, and national brand value, has been reduced to massaging the ego of Rigathi Gachagua. Fred Matiang’i, Jubilee’s de facto leader, reportedly entered closed-door negotiations to withdraw his party’s candidate in favour of Gachagua’s DCP in the July 16 by-election.
This is not unity — it is capitulation.
This move is deeply undemocratic. What happens to the Jubilee aspirant who believed in the party enough to vie under its banner? Why deny a Kenyan citizen the right to contest under the party of their choice simply to appease one man’s tribal ambitions? Gachagua, who fancies himself the “new Raila,” cannot be trusted in any boardroom. His record is littered with threats, blackmail, and selective tribal defence.
Gachagua’s obsession is clear: he wants to capture the Ol Kalou seat to claim that Mt Kenya has rejected Ruto because of his impeachment. This is not a national agenda. It is raw personal vendetta. The united opposition offers nothing beyond “Wantam” slogans and “Ruto Must Go.” No concrete plan on jobs, debt, agriculture, healthcare or economic recovery. Just agitation.
Matiang’i, a man once praised for technocratic competence, is now complicit in this emptiness. By subordinating Jubilee to Gachagua’s DCP, he is helping recycle the same bitter, agenda-less politics that offers Kenyans no alternative. An outfit so desperate it cannot even field its own candidate in a constituency it once dominated is destined for failure.
Kenyans are not foolish. They see through the con. By-elections like Ol Kalou are early warnings for 2027. Voters want leaders with vision and delivery, not professional protesters chasing personal power.
Rigathi Gachagua and Fred Matiang’i are setting the opposition up for spectacular failure. Their backroom ego-massaging reveals one truth: they have no plan for Kenya — only plans for themselves.
