Rigathi Gachagua, the impeached former Deputy President and a disgraced former D.O., came to Meru not with solutions but with insults, bitterness, and division. Instead of talking about development, he spent his time attacking elected leaders, mocking the President, and calling out his replacement — Prof. Kithure Kindiki — who has been in office for less than a year but is already delivering.
But let’s ask a simple question: What did Gachagua do for Meru in his two years as Deputy President? What project did he bring? What job opportunities did he create? What new ideas did he push? Apart from allegedly securing shady tenders at KEMSA for his family, there’s absolutely nothing to show. Zero.
In just one visit, Gachagua managed to confuse people, incite hatred, and divide communities. His supporters, chanting “One Term” all weekend, are clearly disconnected from facts. Everyone in Meru knows that President Ruto is in his first term — and Kindiki’s work is already visible in the region, especially with the Gakoromone modern market project.
Let’s be clear: when Meru residents shout “One Term”, they are not insulting Ruto. They’re reminding Gachagua that his own term — of threats, chest-thumping, and tribal politics — ended early. He was kicked out for a reason.
We in Meru are polite and listen respectfully, but that doesn’t mean we are foolish. We know leadership is about service, not shouting matches and insults. Gachagua may want to campaign on noise and blame, but here in Meru, we’ve moved on to real leaders with real results.
So if he’s celebrating “One Term,” he better know — it’s his term that ended, not Ruto’s.
