Rigathi Gachagua has proven, time and again, that he is a problem for any leadership role. In 2022, before William Ruto chose his running mate, MPs voted on who should be Deputy President. Gachagua lost decisively. Legislators rejected him, citing his divisive behavior and self-interest. Yet Ruto over ruled the MPs and he became Deputy President, and his actions since have only confirmed those early warnings.
By 2024, the same MPs moved to impeach him. They accused him of being tribal, selfish, and overbearing—exactly the reasons they had opposed him in 2022. Instead of changing, Gachagua became more divisive, alienating colleagues and making it difficult to work together.
Now, in 2025, the opposition is preparing to impeach him again. Gachagua’s reckless and divisive behavior shows that it doesn’t matter whether he is in government or not—his own party and the opposition will hold him accountable. If he continues in leadership, a fourth impeachment is inevitable because his record of tribal politics, selfishness, and recklessness cannot be ignored.
The facts are clear: Gachagua has been rejected three times—by MPs in 2022, through impeachment in 2024, and now facing impeachment again in 2025. His repeated failures show that he is unfit for leadership.
Kenya cannot risk letting him near power again. History shows that Gachagua’s presence creates division and conflict wherever he is. Whether his party is in government or in opposition, Gachagua will face a fourth impeachment. He is the problem, and he should never be entrusted with leadership again.
