Rigathi Gachagua’s recent theatrics, grandstanding, and loud proclamations about “reclaiming Mt. Kenya” are not acts of loyalty — they’re business transactions. Let us not forget the painful truth: the man once sold us out. And now, having been kicked out of his Deputy President seat, he’s circling back, trying to “reclaim” us — only to auction us again to the highest bidder.
In 2022, Gachagua betrayed his own brother, President Uhuru Kenyatta. He weaponized tribalism, disrespected elders, and pushed a bitter narrative that fractured Mt. Kenya’s unity. Why? To secure a seat at the table — a Deputy Presidency he eventually used to enrich himself and his inner circle, not to serve the people who backed him.
Today, after falling out with Ruto and being stripped of power, he wants us to forget. He’s packaging himself as a regional savior, talking about “economic liberation” and “stakeholding” — but the reality is, he’s simply looking for his next client. Gachagua doesn’t stand for Mt. Kenya; he stands on Mt. Kenya, using it as a bargaining chip in every political negotiation.
This is a dangerous pattern. Every time Gachagua finds himself outside the circle of power, he runs back to us with tribal drums, only to exchange our unity for personal gain. The man is not a unifier; he is a trader. His loyalty is for sale, and Mt. Kenya is the commodity.
We must reject being treated like merchandise. The mountain is not a market. Let us build leadership that prioritizes service over self-interest — and finally break this cycle of betrayal masked as representation. Gachagua is not coming home; he’s just making another delivery.
