One of the biggest reasons former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was impeached was his obsession with controlling Mt. Kenya politics as a personal empire. While still holding national office, Gachagua spent more time running around the region trying to crown leaders, endorse sycophants, and discredit anyone who didn’t kneel before him — all under the guise of regional unity.
His infamous “shareholder” narrative wasn’t about development; it was about power. He used it to push a dangerous idea: that Mt. Kenya deserved more simply because it had voted more — and that he alone would decide who qualifies to lead the region. That rhetoric alienated other parts of the country, undermined national unity, and created unnecessary tension even within Mt. Kenya. It was less about service and more about building a political kingdom.
When he was impeached, one would expect a moment of reflection. Instead, Gachagua doubled down. He formed the Democracy for Citizens Party — which is quickly turning into a personal vehicle for revenge politics. He’s now trying again to impose his chosen leaders on Mt. Kenya under the same old “us vs them” politics. Anyone who questions his methods is branded as a traitor, while yes-men are celebrated as heroes.
This must be rejected.
Mt. Kenya residents are wise. They want development, not division. They want unity with the rest of Kenya, not isolation. They deserve the freedom to choose leaders based on ideas, integrity, and results — not based on loyalty to one man.
Let the people decide.
We cannot allow one man’s political frustrations to be turned into a tribal war. Gachagua’s attempts to control Mt. Kenya failed before, and they must fail again — for the sake of the region and the nation.
