Let’s get one thing straight — Rigathi Gachagua did everything earthly possible to avoid impeachment. He bent, he begged, and he bargained.
He began by swallowing his pride and apologising to President William Ruto — a man he had spent months subtly undermining. Then, in a move that raised both eyebrows and blood pressure in Mt Kenya circles, he beseeched Raila Odinga, the same man he had sworn was the devil himself during campaigns. Suddenly, “Baba” wasn’t that bad if he could save him.
Then came the lawyers. Big-name, top-tier, silk-robed litigators, whose fees alone could pay salaries for a whole county. The legal firepower deployed could only mean one thing — panic in Karen.
And then, the final act of desperation: he faked illness. Yes, Gachagua, ever the energetic defender of “shareholding” politics, suddenly grew weak when the political ICU beeped. He disappeared, perhaps hoping Ruto would forget, or the storm would blow over.
So for the man to now claim he was pushed out because he sided with Gen Z, is not just dishonest — it’s diabolical.
Gen Z, in their authenticity and raw courage, don’t need opportunists. They didn’t ask Gachagua to hide behind their placards. When they marched against the Finance Bill, he was silent. When they were arrested, he was missing. And now, after failing to save his own skin, he wants to wear their struggle like a cloak?
Let’s be serious.
This isn’t a redemption story. It’s a lesson in political karma. You can’t insult everyone, betray allies, divide your region, and then expect tears when your political house collapses.
Mt Kenya deserves better. Kenya deserves honest leadership — not survivors blaming Gen Z for a storm they created.
